Target: Unknown.
Fate: Crashed into the North Sea at the Southern Stortemelk between Vlieland and Terschelling. The engine of the manufacturer "Bristol Pegasus XVIII" was found and recovered by the HA-44, and the propeller by the ZK-36. Dirk Bruin discovered more details on the engine, to perhaps identify which aircraft belongs to this engine and to know more about the plane and its crew their fate. Under Cylinder 1 in the crankcase : 10895F A196256 PEG XVIII, and CW28, HDA 9053 DA, identifying the engine as an "Bristol Pegasus XVIII". The only aircraft equipped with this engine was the Handley Page Hampden.

Hi,my friends Grandfather was F/s A.E Hill killed Hampden AE189 25th July 1941,the Hampden crashed into the sea off Den Helder.
Although impossible to prove is it a possibility, even small, that your engine was from this Hampden?? kevin,my friend has photos
and his grandfathers log book.All the best,Laurence.

Target: Air Patrol
Fate: After an Air battle with German fighters of the type Messerschmitt BF-109, Sgt Parker was shot down over the Thames area. Crashed off All Hallows,
Essex UK. The body of Sgt Parker washed ashore at the Northern Beach at Terschelling.

Crashed into the IJsselmeer, 12Km SSW of Lemmer.

Fate: Heading towards their target, the Krupp's factory at Essen, Germany, with 4 other Bombers from the Squadron (AE300, AE301, AE302, AE292).
The Hampden AE303/OF was probably noticed in the range of the German radar post "TIGER" on Terschelling, and send an night-fighter and shot down the Hampden and crashed into the North Sea, North of Terschelling.

Target: Hannover, Germany.
Fate: After the bombing run on the target at Hannover, the bomber was probably noticed in the range of the German radar post "TIGER" on Terschelling, and send an night-fighter of the type Messerschmidt BF-110 from the 4.NJG.1 Fliegerhorst Bergen/Leeuwarden flown by OFW Paul Gildner and Crew. The Pilot Paul Gildner of the night-fighter intercepted the Whitley and attacked the Whitley with a burst of cannon fire, Sgt Penn was wounded, the second attack fire broke out near the escape hatch, by the third and final attack Paul Gildner destroyed the flight controls.. . The Whitley was on fire, out of controls and diving into the Wadden sea, about 8Km South of Terschelling.

Fate: Intercepted by an nightfighter of the type Messerschmidt BF-110 from Fliegerhorst Leeuwarden IV./NJG.1 flown by Luftwaffe FW SIEGFRIED NEV and UffZ. Gottfried Pautz. The Wellington was shot down and crashed into the IJsselmeer between Medemblik and Den Oever.,

Fate: Intercepted by an nightfighter of the type Messerschmidt BF-110 from Fliegerhorst Leeuwarden IV./NJG.1 flown by Luftwaffe Ace Hptm HELMUT LENT (21th Victory) and Uffz Kubich. The Hampden was shot down and crashed into the North Sea, near Vlieland.

Fate: Crashed into the Wadden Sea near Kornwerderzand.

Target: Genua, Italy
Fate: On the way back after an succesfull bombing raid on the town of Genua, Italy, the T2879 was hit by German FLAK at Rotterdam / The Hague. At 40Km
of The Hague above the North sea the crew jumped out of the damaged T2879. The wellington flew some minutes inbound the dutch mainland before the crash near Landsmeer.
